Gold Coast Rural Fire Brigade Group  - Home
Gold Coast Rural Fire Brigade Group is the co-ordinating body for the 17 RURAL FIRE BRIGADES in the Gold Coast City area. These Brigades, from the Rural Fire Service, were originally formed in the old Albert Shire, which comprised the mountainous hinterland region to the West of the Gold Coast plus the sugar cane-growing coastal flatlands to the North-West of the city. They became part of Gold Coast City when Albert Shire was absorbed by Gold Coast City in 1995.

These 17 Brigades provide bushfire and other protection in their local area, and operate as a united entity at larger fires or other emergency incidents. They also assist Urban fire units in providing fire protection for the many bush and grass areas in the Urban coverage area. In return Urban units provide specialist Road Accident Rescue and Hazardous Materials support to Rural Brigades.

GCRFBG co-ordinates Operational and Training procedures for the 17 Brigades. Group meets on the last Thursday of every second month at the Nerang Bicentennial Centre, where each brigade is represented by its First Officer or nominee. Visitors are welcome to observe these meetings.

The Group executive is elected from members of the constituent Brigades every two years. It consists of the Group Officer, three Deputy Group Officers, a Group Administrative Officer, Group Training Officer, Group Finance Officer, Incident Support Unit Officer and Group Information Technology Officer.

New Brigade members are welcome – intending members should fill in the application form which should be forwarded to the GAO. Applications are subject to a police suitability check and then will be forwarded to the relevant Brigade.

Applicants do not have to reside in a Brigade area to be a member.

Individual Brigades have websites and the Rural Fire Service website to provide additional information.
